Thing to Know When Choosing a New Kitten - Pedigree or Moggy?
Posted Under: Uncategorized
So you’ve taken the plunge and decided to introduce a new kitten to your family, you now need to decide what type of kitten would suit you the most. There are a great deal of kittens for sale, and it’s unlikely they will all be appropriate for your home.
The very first thing you need to decide is whether you want a pedigree kitten or a moggy.
Moggies
If you choose a moggy kitten (a kitten not of any particular breed, or indeed a cross between two specific cat breeds), then you can find them most places. Kitten classifieds on the internet, local paper advertisements, on shop advertising sections, or indeed by asking at your local vetinary surgery if they know of anyone selling a kitten. You should be able to locate a kitten in your local area with ease. Chances are, if a moggy is your preferred choice, you’ll be spoilt for choice!
Moggys are normally docile and friendly, unless they are mixed bred with a known temperamental breed. It is usually safe to assume they will be good with children. They should also be resilient, and less prone to illness and also cheaper to keep.
Pedigrees
On the other end of the scale, Pedigree kittens are often harder to locate, particularly if you have a specific pedigree in mind. If you’re planning to home your pedigree kitten with youngsters, it’s worth researching the pedigree you are thinking of, and dismissing the ones that have known issues with youngsters! Breeds such as Siamese or Burmese cats will often scratch and claw if provoked, making them unsuitable for a home with children.
Also, be aware of any pedigree or moggy breeds which are more prone to illnesses, and those that actually have relatively short life spans, and weigh up this information before making the final decision on what kitten you want.
Having finally decided on the breed that suits you, your family and your lifestyle, many people choose to get their kitten through a reputable cat breeder. Make sure that your pedigree cat comes with all the official documents so you can be sure your kitten is a 100% healthy pedigree kitten. You should also research the average cost of your chosen breed before making any payment.
It’s worth taking the time to find the perfect kitten for everyone, hopefully your kitten will be part of the family for many years.
