Our Pets Are Also Hating The Credit Crunch

Animal charities and sussex vets have noticed that the Credit crunch is now taking it’s toll on our fluffy friends.

Animal charities are seeing a dramatic increase in the number of dogs and cats being borught into their shelters, with owners simply unable to afford them. In this time of economic downturn where buisnesses are crumbling all around us, our animal companions seem to be being hit just as hard as us, as owners struggle with their own bills as well as their pets. Paying for hospical care such as animal physiotherapy is expensive and people just cannot afford it.  Animals are either being dropped off at animal shelters or taken a distance away from the family home and dropped in the middle of no-where, left to fend for themselves.

So what have been the contributions to this dire set of circumstances? This xmas you may have brought a pet for your family. Some are facing unemployment and the families newest face is suddenly unaffordable. Some people are being forced out of their homes into smaller places which dont allow pets to be kept.

Can animal hospitals cope with this sudden influx in vet referrals?

Most animal charities are now close to being full, only able to take in emergency cases. Animal shelters are recieving less donations to, with the credit crunch tightening people’s belt and charities all round getting less handouts as people struggle to save themselves.

There is a bright spot on the end of this tail (pun intended), as january saw an increase in the number of pet adoptions, which has been the best month for awhile, but the ratio between those coming in and those going out with a loving family are still agreat distance apart.
