Cats and Fleas
Posted Under: Uncategorized
The cute new addition to your family home could very well have fleas, though this may be hard to believe. It is not uncommon for kittens and young cats to bring fleas into your home as they carry them from the place where they intially inhabited. For instance there’s a large probability that the kittens will have fleas if the mother had them. There is the possibility that even though a mothering cat wasn’t allowed out, fleas ould be brought in by other pets. Clthes and feet are ways in which humans frequently bring fleas in to the home.
One of the most important tools to own is a flea comb. As soon as you bring the kitten home, take it to the bathroom and gently talk to it as you glide the flea comb through the kitty’s fur. Look carefully behing the ears and at the base of the tail as these are particular haunts for fleas. The discovery of a single flea requires immediate action.
In your kitty grooming box, you should have picked up something that will both kill off the fleas, and be safe for a newborn kitten.Check the instructions, and have the product ready in case you find a flea on your new introduction. Your kitten is likely to be feeling nervous at this point so spak gently, and try to reassure it.It is helpful if you could remove all other pets and family members from the environment as this helps to calm and reassure the cat. Once your kitten is finally clean, it can meet the remainder of the family, though you shouldn’t allow it back into its carrier or anything it has had previous contact with. It is vitally important that it is throughly cleaned before returned to the cat.
In the majority of cases you kitten will arrive with no fleas, but being prepared just in cae can help avoid a potentially big job.
