Is a British Short hair Pussy-cat Right for Your Family?

The British short hair pussy-cat, best caught for the world as the model utilized by Lewis Carroll for his famous Cheshire moggy in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, has become more popular since WWII. With a pedigree that goes back to the Roman invasion of Britain, this charming tabby is England’s oldest breed and now the most popular entry in cat shows there. While still rare in the US, the breed has been imported from Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the UK.

Kitty lovers appreciate the British short hair for its chilled out personality. With an enormous, muscly build, the “Brit” likes to get close to its family as opposed to being held and carried. Sitting close to its owner and being petted are favorite entertainments. But this cat prefers to keep an eye fixed on everything that's going down and will follow noiselessly from room to room to stay abreast of family activity. Possibly, it considers itself to be the one in quiet control instead of just the household pet.

Due to the British shorthair’s known intelligence, it's become a favorite of animal trainers. With an easy-going disposition and the ability to learn tricks almost immediately, this cat has earned entrance onto both motion picture and TV sets. Unknown for being particularly flexible or fast, as quickly as the frolicsome kitten stage passes, the Brit is much more likely to become the house “couch potato.” Its patience and contentment with passing the day alone make it a perfect choice for working families who have to leave the cat on it's own in the daytime. Although it enjoys attention, it does not need relentless care to be content and happy. Neither is it deleterious of property.

The British shorthair’s friendly, reasonable personality makes it a great pet for children and grownups alike. It is even content to share a home with other pets of similar minded quietness. Rarely does it want to meow aside from to maybe speak to its owner about being fed. The majority of the time, the pussy-cat is a quiet and affectionate roommate that demands little in the way of additional care and attention.

Since no domestic kitty is any match for outside perils, this pet belongs inside as well. It will be quite content with these arrangements, which makes it an ideal choice for flat dwellers or those living in smaller homes. It could be called the “bulldog of the kitty world,” but in truth the British short hair cat is simply a glorious pussycat that lives to be loved and appreciated.
